SOS Children’s Village
About:
OS Children’s Villages is an international Non-Governmental Child Welfare Organization, whose main objective is to provide long term family care to children in need of care regardless of race, colour, creed and religious affiliation.
The first SOS children’s Village was founded by an Austrian Hermann Gmeiner in 1949 in Imst, Austria. He was committed to helping children in need- children who had lost their homes, their security and families as a result of the Second World War.
SOS Children’s Village takes action for children and work in the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. SOS Children’s Village is operational in 133 countries and territories worldwide.
SOS Children’s Village of Zambia Trust is an affiliate of SOS Kinderdoff International which is an umbrella body of all SOS children’s village worldwide.
The SOS children’s Village opened the first village in Lusaka the capital city of Zambia in 1999, the second village opened in Kitwe on the Copperbelt province in 2004 with the third village in Livingstone-Southern province which is earmarked for official opening in October, 2008.

Internship Summary:
The SOS Children’s Village acts not only as a school for orphans and vulnerable children, it also provides a range of community services. Students will be working in one of three areas depending on their field of study: the primary and secondary school, the medical centre or with the community outreach programs.
