Weir turns in impressive weekend
Wednesday, October 3, 2012
This weekend in Nanaimo Douglas College Royals golfer Kate Weir captured her first tournament win of the season in decisive fashion. After finishing tied for first place on Saturday, Weir ran away with the lead shooting an impressive 78 on Sunday, blowing out all other competitors by 10 strokes and finishing the weekend with a combined score of 158.
“I battled hard in my second round” Said Weir, who virtually controlled the course putting only 27 times over 18 holes. “The 27 putts was a big accomplishment for me because I had putted very poorly in my first round, where I had 5 three putts.” Weir also had 3 birdies in each round to compliment her already impressive weekend.
Having now competed in 3 tournaments so far this year, Weir now sits a convincing 8 strokes above the closest competitor with a total score of 482.
Royals Golf action continues next weekend when they travel to Abbotsford to compete in the University of Fraser Valley Tournament. With only 1 weekend to go, Weir looks to finish the season in first place and qualify for Nationals, hosted by Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario.
