Royals take on Tritons

Friday, April 13, 2012

The Douglas College men's baseball team will take on the Edmonds CC Tritons (ranked #19 in the Pacific) at Whalley ballpark this Saturday at 1:00pm (BP @ 10:45). Coach Whitely is glad to finally get out on their home field after wet conditions and construction of the new indoor batting cages have forced them to play at alternate venues for the first two weeks of conference play.

Last weekend, the Royals managed to take one win against top ranked Bellevue College at Queen's Park. The win came in the 11th inning of a back-and-forth game between the two teams. Clayton Franco threw well as the starter but it was Scott Piesche who vultured the win. Takato Sakurai was the top hitter with 3 hits that included a big 3 run homerun in the 6th. On Sunday, the #3 ranked team in the entire West Coast was too much for the Royals on the Sunday as they lost both down at Courter Field in Bellevue, WA.

With classes now complete and exams in full swing, it will be important for the guys to stay focused on the task at hand. The Royals sit just outside the playoff picture at 3-5 but with a top loaded schedule, should be able to make a push down the stretch. The Royals face the 1-20 Shoreline Dolphins next weekend at home on Saturday and in Seattle on Sunday.
