PACWEST Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week- Week #3
Marc Mincieli, the 2nd year student athlete enrolled in the Sports Sciences program at Douglas College had a stellar outing this weekend posting a draw and win over Kwantlen University to take over top spot in the PACWEST standings. On Saturday, the Royals traveled to Surrey to take on Kwantlen University. The two teams played a hard fought game battling for every inch of the field but settled for a 1-1 draw. Mincieli made key saves early and late in the game, allowing the Royals to come back from down 1-0. Late in the game he robbed an Eagles’ striker who was able to get in all alone. Mincieli made sure the Royals were able to get a key point on the road with his stellar performance. On Sunday, in the 2nd leg of the home/away series with the Eagles, the Royals came out flying. The boys from New West were rewarded with a well-earned 2-0 victory. The Royals scored early in the game and got the insurance marker just before half. Mincieli, again stood on his head after the Royals went down to 10-men and had to whether the Eagles attack for the last 30 minutes of the game. Mincieli was “man of the match” all weekend for the Royals and helped his team move back atop the PACWEST standings with 18 points.
