Kyra Iannone takes lead of Women's Volleyball team
The Douglas College Royals are proud and excited to announce the hiring of Kyra Iannone as the Head Coach of the Women's Volleyball program.
Kyra comes to the royals with experience and success at many levels of national and international volleyball. "We knew that we needed to go a new direction with the program, and to do that we needed someone with a unique resume and philosophy toward coaching and the sport" said Athletic Director Kyle Baillie. "Kyra was our first choice and we know that she is going to fundamentally change our program from the ground up. We couldn't be happier."
Most recently, Kyra coached the senior boys team at Semiahmoo secondary to provincial championships at the high school level, but she is also one of the founders and head coaches at Sideout Beach Volleyball Club. She brings a strong club relationship with Fraser Valley Volleyball and names Ben Josephson (Trinity Western University) as one of her coaching mentors. When we asked Ben about Kyra he told us; “Kyra has great passion and unquenchable work ethic when it comes to volleyball, both indoor and outdoor. She has a great technical knowledge and a thirst to grow her skills and abilities as a coach. These traits combined with a great competitiveness will lend themselves well to coaching at the post-secondary level. Douglas is lucky to have Kyra as their Head Coach for the foreseeable future. I'm proud to have had the pleasure of coaching with Kyra these past few years."
When we asked Kyra what the secret to her success was she replied "I coach the whole athlete, the team is a family, it comes from a deep feeling of love for my athletes." We also asked her what kind of program she envisioned the Royals becoming, she answered simply "A championship one. Period." Student focussed and a fierce competitor? We like her already.
Welcome to the Royals Coach Iannone!
