PACWEST Female Golfer of the Week - Oct. 8

Kate Weir entered the fourth and final PACWEST tournament of 2012 with an 8 stroke lead for the overall women’s individual title. Having finished 1st after the last tournament in Nanaimo, Weir had her eyes set on another top finish. The site this time was the Chilliwack Golf & Country Club.

This 5’5” student-athlete from Trail, British Columbia found herself sitting 3rd after day one of the tournament. Sitting 6 strokes behind Jen Woods of UBCO (73) and 2 strokes behind Alana Kent of UBCO (77), Weir had to settle for a 79 after day one. Day two saw a reversal of Saturday’s events. Weir would win the day with a 73, 10 strokes ahead of the next 4 competitors, all tied at 83. Her two-day total of 152 was good enough to earn first place at this tournament by 4 strokes over Jen Woods. This would be Weir’s second straight first place finish at at PACWEST Tournament.

The four tournament cumulative women’s individual title would eventually go to Weir with a 634 stroke score, which was an incredible 12 stroke lead over her nearest competitor, Jen Woods of UBC Okanagan.

PACWEST Female Golfer of the Week - Oct. 1

Douglas College’s Kate Weir (Trail, BC) won her first tournament of the season after two disappointing finishes at the TRU Invitational (tied for 2nd) and Kwantlen Invitational (4th Place). Weir lead all female golfers with a two-day low score of 158 (80, 78), 10 strokes ahead of UBCO’s Jessica Kozak and Jen Woods, both tied for second.

Weir takes an 8 point lead heading into the PACWEST’S fourth and final Invitational at the Chilliwack Golf & Country, this coming weekend.

 

2012-2013 Season highlights

Named 2011 PACWEST Female Golfer of the Year.

Member of the 2011 Royals team that captured a CCAA Bronze medal in golf at the national championships.

PACWEST Female Golfer of the Week---Kate Weir of Douglas claimed top spot out of 6 female golfers in the PACWEST Leaderboard. This Port Coquitlam resident shot a two-day lead total of 162 (80 + 82) finishing one stroke ahead of both Kalli Gordon of Vancouver Island University and Alana Kent of UBC Okanagan.
At the end of the two-day tournament hosted by Thompson Rivers University, UBC Okanagan finished with a total stroke count of 327. Weir and her Douglas College team would finish 21 strokes behind Heat in this 2 team race for women’s team golf supremacy.
