The Douglas College Varsity Badminton team were victorious in their first league competition of the 2012/13 PacWest season hosted by Thompson Rivers University(Kamloops).

Led by 5th year veterans Charmagne Yeung and RuiLin Huang the Royals began the day by winning the team competition with a perfect 4-0 record.

Shortly after clinching the team competition the Royals turned their attention to the individual competition.

There was no let-up for the Royals. With 5 first year players on the roster the team pushed hard in every match and were eventually rewarded with a clean sweep of all five events.

Four time player of the year, RuiLin Huang, started it off by winning the Women's singles event without dropping a game. She later teamed up with Charmagne Yeung to win the Women's doubles event against a strong VIU team.

Not to be outdone it was time for Luo Wei(Rey) to take center stage. Rey began by defeating Jason Sun the #1 seed from Langara College in three hard fought games. It was a final where both players fought hard for each point throughout the match. Rey eventually pulling through with some explosive attacking play.

Rey then teamed up with rookie teammate Nathan Choi to win the Men's doubles event over the Kwantlen duo of Andy Wong and Willis Kwee.

All that was left now was for Nathan and Charmagne to win the mixed doubles for the sweep. They did not disappoint by winning the final two games to one over the hard working duo of Matt Downton and Ashley Jang from Langara College.

"I was happy how the team stuck together and fought hard but the execution must be better for success this season" commented coach Al Mawani. The team will now travel to VIU(Nanaimo) for the next competition in 2 weeks time.
