• Together in Diversity – International Day 2012


    International Day is an annual event intended to celebrate and promote cultural diversity, awareness, understanding as well as the internationalization of Douglas College by engaging students, staff, faculty and the community. There are a number of activities you can get involved with and you can choose to either participate, volunteer, or be a part of the event by setting up a cultural booth or performing.

    Time Schedule:

    New Westminster Campus – January 25

    10:00am – 3:00pm: Cultural Display Booths
    11:50am – 1:30pm: Global Music & Dance Performances
    12:00pm – 1:30pm: International Food Fair (until supplies last)
    1:30pm – 2:30pm: Global Speaker Series afternoon session
    7:00pm: Keynote Speaker evening session

    David Lam Campus- January 26

    10:00am – 3:00pm: Cultural Display Booths
    11:50am – 1:30pm: Global Music & Dance Performances
    12:00pm – 1:30pm: International Food Fair (until supplies last)

      • International Food Fair
        The sharing of food is an almost universal way in which we express fellowship with one another. Across cultures the sharing of food symbolizes the values of compassion, hospitality and sacrifice, amongst many others. Come out on January 25 (at NW) and 26 (at DL) to share the experience with the Douglas College community. Comfort food from around the world will be available at $6 per plate. MORE DETAILS
      • Global Speaker Series
        Whether it was revolutions in the Arab world, famine in East Africa, the Occupy Movement or the world economic crisis, 2011 had no shortage of tumultuous events. The Global Speaker series will feature speakers from Douglas College and the community at large who will share their experiences and knowledge of current global issues during International Days 2012.       • Global Music and Dance Performances
        Enjoy the sounds and dances from around the world during International Days 2012. Last years performances included performances from countries such as Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, India, Scotland and more! MORE DETAILS
      • Cultural Displays/Exhibits
        On January 25(NW) and 26(DL) the concourse and atrium will be packed with opportunities to learn and interact with students, staff and community members representing the immense diversity represented at Douglas college and in the Lower Mainland. If you are a student and are interested in sharing your culture with the Douglas community, click here. Don’t forget to pick up your Global Passport and get as many stamps as you can during International Days. Collect 10 stamps and you can enter to win a pair of Canucks tickets and other great prizes.
    • Global Passport
      Global Passports will be available one week prior to the event. Visit and learn at a table or other event during international days and you will get a stamp in your passport. Once you have received 10 stamps you can enter your passport for some great prizes, including a pair of Canucks Tickets. Passports will be available at the following locations:New Westminster Campus:

    • Represent Your Culture, Get Involved!
      Are you interested in sharing your culture with the Douglas community? We are encouraging students from all cultures to come out and share something meaningful about their culture at International Days 2012. If you would like to organize an interactive booth or perform all you have to do is fill out the following form and we will help you get setup.
